I want to serve.

Service has been a part of my life from the very beginning. I was raised in a home where giving back was expected and serving others was a way of life. I have also been blessed to share that same commitment with my wife of 33 years, Dr. Gisele McKinney-Hawkins. Together, we raised our three children—Brandon, Bria, and Morgan—to believe that one of life’s greatest rewards is giving from the heart.


Twenty years ago, Lake Charles became my home. Since then, I have poured myself into this community alongside others who believe in making a difference. I have worked in disaster recovery efforts after Hurricanes Laura and Delta, mentored youth through agencies within the criminal justice system, served students at Combre-Fondel Elementary and in Kappa League, worked with at-risk youth at AMIkids, and contributed as a presenter for the Kiwanis Bringing Up Grades program. I currently serve as President of the Southwest Louisiana Louis Martinet Society, and I am a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Lake Charles Alumni Chapter, and Christian Baptist Church.


As your judge, I will bring that same spirit of service to the bench.

My experience sets me apart. I have 20 years of legal experience, including service as a criminal staff attorney at the Third Circuit Court of Appeal, four years as a prosecutor with the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office, and more than 14 years in private practice handling personal injury, criminal defense, estate planning, and civil rights matters.


My time as a prosecutor taught me something I have never forgotten: the decisions made in our justice system can deeply affect lives, families, and the safety of our community. It taught me the importance of following the rule of law, staying grounded in the facts, and never allowing emotion to outweigh fairness and objectivity. That is the mindset I will bring to the bench.


If elected, I will serve with integrity. I will serve with fairness. I will serve with respect for the rule of law. And I will serve this community with the heart, discipline, and commitment it deserves.
